Hurry is the enemy of self-knowing. When you are in a rush, you may achieve many things in the world, but you will miss yourself. To know oneself requires a depth of waiting — an immense patience, almost infinite. Slowly, very slowly, the inner darkness begins to dissolve.

The mind functions as a continuous stream of thoughts. What follows is a simple approach that does not depend on rules, conditions, or preparation. There is no need for a specific posture, location, time, or ritual. It does not matter whether one is seated, walking, rested, or engaged in daily activity. This practice is not meant to be separated from ordinary life, but to exist naturally within it.

Simply observe. The instant you begin wondering, “What is going on?” thought re-enters. The moment you interpret or explain, thinking has already returned. Anything other than simple observation allows the mind to step back in.

You are able to observe the mind because you are not the mind. The very fact that you can watch your thoughts proves a distance between you and them. This distance is the beginning of awareness. The whole purpose of witnessing is to recognize this separation — to see clearly that thoughts move, emotions change, moods arise and pass… but the watcher remains.
